Fatal 15 Freeway accident : Motorcyclist Killed in Collision With Truck in Cajon Pass, Major Delays Reported

A motorcyclist was killed Friday afternoon, August 7, 2026, after a collision involving a truck on Interstate 15 in the Cajon Pass, triggering major traffic disruptions during the evening commute.

According to law enforcement officials and California Highway Patrol traffic logs, the fatal crash was reported at approximately 1 p.m. on the southbound side of I-15, just south of Oak Hills Road.

Investigators said the motorcyclist swerved in an attempt to avoid a collision with another vehicle before striking a truck. The rider was thrown from the motorcycle and came to rest in the slow lane.

Emergency responders rushed to the scene, but the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the location. The victim’s identity had not been released as of the available information, pending notification of family members.

Following the collision, authorities shut down the three right-hand lanes of southbound I-15 while investigators examined the crash scene and gathered evidence. Only one lane remained open as crews worked to clear the area.

The lane closures quickly resulted in significant congestion through the Cajon Pass, with traffic reportedly backing up for more than 15 miles during the Friday evening commute.

Motorists traveling through the area were advised to expect substantial delays and consider alternate routes while the investigation and cleanup continued.

After several hours, officials reported that the roadway had been cleared at approximately 8:15 p.m., allowing all lanes to reopen and traffic to gradually return to normal.

The circumstances leading up to the deadly collision remain under investigation. Investigators are working to determine the sequence of events, including what caused the motorcyclist to swerve and how the other vehicles became involved.

Authorities have not released additional details about the truck driver or the other vehicle involved.

The fatal crash serves as another reminder of the dangers motorists and motorcyclists face on heavily traveled freeway corridors, particularly in areas such as the Cajon Pass where traffic volumes and changing road conditions can create hazardous situations.

The investigation remains ongoing, and additional information is expected as authorities continue working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the motorcyclist’s death.
