The Gun Barrel City community is mourning the death of Michael Gray, 49, whose disappearance on August 5, 2026, prompted an extensive search involving law enforcement, search-and-rescue personnel and community members.
Michael was reported missing on August 5, leading to an urgent effort to determine where he was last seen and bring him home safely. For his family and friends, the search was marked by uncertainty and hope as teams worked to locate him.
The Gun Barrel City Police Department, together with Texas Search and Rescue (TEXSAR) and the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office, participated in search operations. Crews worked through challenging areas that included dense woods and sections of water as they followed information connected to Michael’s disappearance.
The search ultimately ended with the discovery of Michael in the North Twin Creek area. According to the information available, Justice of the Peace Judge Fawns of Precinct 2, Henderson County, pronounced him deceased at the scene and ordered an autopsy. His body was subsequently transported to American Forensics in Mesquite.
The circumstances surrounding Michael’s death remain subject to the appropriate investigation and medical examination. An autopsy is expected to provide authorities with additional information as they work to establish the circumstances surrounding his passing.
For Michael’s family, however, the search and its tragic conclusion represent the loss of someone whose importance cannot be captured by an official report.
