A brush fire burning in Jamul, California, on Friday, August 7, prompted an emergency response after flames broke out near Skyline Truck Trail and quickly spread through vegetation in the area.
The fire, identified by CAL FIRE as the Beaver Fire, was reported on August 7 and had grown to approximately 5 acres by the afternoon. CAL FIRE San Diego reported that the blaze remained active and had 0% containment at the time of its update.
The fire’s location raised concerns because of the nearby residential areas. Thick smoke from the vegetation fire was visible across portions of Jamul as firefighters worked to slow the spread and protect threatened properties.
Authorities issued evacuation orders for zones SDC-2102 and SDC-2158, while evacuation warnings were issued for zones SDC-2020, SDC-2104 and SDC-2161, according to CAL FIRE. Residents in areas under an evacuation order were urged to leave as directed by emergency officials.
Fire crews responding to the incident are focused on stopping the fire’s forward progress, protecting homes and other structures and establishing containment around the burning vegetation.
The cause of the Beaver Fire remained under investigation, and CAL FIRE’s initial incident update reported no structures destroyed or damaged and no civilian or firefighter injuries at that time.
Residents near the fire should remain alert to changing conditions, particularly because wind and shifting fire behavior can cause smoke and flames to move rapidly. Anyone located inside an evacuation zone should follow official instructions and leave promptly when ordered.
The situation remains active as firefighters continue working to contain the blaze and protect the Jamul community.
