The Texas firefighting community is mourning the passing of Firefighter Driver/Engineer Ted Aaron Carpenter, who died peacefully at his home in Maypearl, Texas, surrounded by his family on August 3, 2026, his 48th birthday, following a courageous battle with cancer.
For Ted, a diagnosis of terminal cancer did not define the final chapter of his life. Those who knew him remember a firefighter, protector, husband, father, and man of deep faith who faced his illness with the same courage and determination he brought to his career.
Ted was born on August 3, 1978, in Dallas, Texas. Throughout his life, he developed a strong commitment to serving others, ultimately dedicating himself to the fire service.
As a Driver/Engineer, Ted carried responsibilities that required skill, courage, and reliability. His work placed him among the first responders who routinely put themselves in harm’s way to protect their communities.
When Ted was diagnosed with terminal cancer, he confronted the devastating news with remarkable strength. Rather than allowing the illness to take away his sense of purpose, he continued to demonstrate the qualities that had defined him throughout his life.
His loved ones remember him as a man of deep faith, unwavering strength, courage, determination, and grace. The same resolve that carried him through emergencies during his firefighting career remained evident throughout his battle with cancer.
Ted’s family was at the center of his life. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 26 years, Bree Averett Carpenter, as well as his daughter, Aubree Montgomery and her husband, Collin, and his son, Tate Carpenter.
For his family, Ted’s passing represents the loss of a husband and father whose presence shaped their lives for decades. The years they shared together created memories that will remain with them as they navigate the difficult days ahead.

A Full Honors funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 8, 2026, at The Avenue Church in Waxahachie, Texas. Interment will follow at Maypearl Cemetery.
The service will provide an opportunity for family, friends, fellow firefighters, and members of the community to come together and honor Ted’s life and years of service.
Ted Carpenter’s story is ultimately one of courage. He spent his career answering the call when others needed help, and when faced with his own final battle, he continued to meet it with the same strength and grace.
